The power of social media in education


Since the beginning, the Internet has become a complex part of life where people are dependent on access to day-to-day activities, such as shopping, social networking, education, banking, home security, and other related activities. Among them, the social network, which seems to be the main attraction of the Internet, can be seen as a blessing and a curse. Namely, in education, social networking is a positive indicator of progress in education and practice. However, we can not deny its negative effects, which for many students today seems to be withdrawal.

Students often get to know the computer when they navigate through these social networks. They gain valuable skills on a device that has become indispensable in the world where students and one who are entering their studies to complete their studies. It also encourages networking with a number of people who are considered to be in the business environment. This is also the case for teachers and administrators. With the existence of social blogs, Twitter and Facebook, teachers are able to share and record different media, educational methods, and the teaching of theories and practices in real time. In addition, many are able to extend the learning techniques and keep working together with the students outside the classroom.

On the contrary, the growth of social media and the development of other interactive communication technologies had a negative impact outside the classroom. Although social media can be considered a positive educational tool, this tool hampers students' performance, social growth and communication skills. Likewise, there are several ways to influence the teacher's overall effectiveness. What impact does academic performance have on reducing? What are social consequences of social media? Which factors are directly responsible for the inability to effectively train students? How do social media work teachers and classroom teachers?

In most cases, access to the Internet can be considered as a great source of information for educational purposes; but for students, the internet is a lot of problematic factor in academic achievement. Generally speaking, children who spend more time on the Internet are more difficult to concentrate and pay more attention. Students who rely solely on social media for information and not for research into other sources are likely to be at the center of learning and information retention. It has a significant impact on learning habits as students are trying to do multi-tasking and ultimately easily distract them because they are too busy tweeting and / or sending messages to Facebook instead of executing orders.

Technological development and excessive access are direct factors in how social media influenced the student in and outside the classroom. Nowadays, most of the students spend on mobile networks through these networks. Some schools prohibit the use of these tools; many enter the school. These devices are used to record videos; take photos of yourself and others, search the web, chirp and log in to Facebook, making it harder to concentrate on your education. These activities also seek to prevent effective education. In addition, many of these activities have caused many problems at school and in the community, for example in fighting, harassment, attorneys, etc. Excessive, unproductive time in social networking time can be very unhealthy and can negatively impact teenagers and children. We can say that teaching / learning is in direct competition with Social Media when it comes to partnering with students.

Using social networks significantly reduced the use of proper grammar and syntax in writing. Students had difficulty in using the language as a result of abbreviated writing and abbreviated forms. Many slang terms have become common in written classroom assignments. These terms are IDK (I do not know), SMH (shaking your head), BTW (otherwise), YW (welcome), TNX (thanks), IMO / IMHO (in my opinion / humble opinion), just to name a few, students have written so many times that they can not understand the differences between correct and incorrect spelling. Teachers see that capitalization, punctuation, and verbal verbal agreements are the same as writing. Students are so fond of bad grammatical use while on the Internet they rely heavily on correcting errors on computing devices, resulting in failure to use English. It then creates a conflict in language use.

Another key aspect that should not be overlooked is the impact of social media on personal communication. Obviously, if students spend more time on social networks, we can agree that they spend less time in person. The lack of personal interpersonal interactions can directly correlate with the lack of social skills and etiquette. We learn important behaviors and emotional signs from close personal relationships that can not be learned online. As a result, some students never learn to read body signals and other nonverbal signals, such as sound and inflection. Social networking sites should not be replaced by personal relationships, but a valuable addition that can create a well-rounded, socially-adjusted individual.

Today, many students are less socially associated with each other and are more online and have a virtual world of false people, which are easily accessible on social networks. This, of course, can have a lasting impact on the family, where effective personal communication is essential to maintaining healthy relationships. Will we blame some of today's social ills and we will be structured in social media in the family structure? Often, we go to restaurants or other public spaces and everyone is busy on a device, so there is very little expression on the subject. The question is how can we balance? How can we compete with this valuable tool on the Internet while maintaining healthy relationships?

Social Media / Networking works both for students and teachers. For example, computer harassment can be seen as the leading negative support for social media. Many times school violence began through a social network. Teachers are also affected by computer harassment. Perpetrators are sometimes students and / or parents. This abuse can be very damaging for a teacher as it reduces overall efficiency and confidence in the classroom. Teachers raise emotional levels of emotion that are saddened by anger over online bullying. Experience is humiliating and embarrassing. Swearing a character is quite common in the computer world and affects both teachers and students alike.

Social Media obviously affects all of us, either positively or negatively. Therefore, technology will continue to develop; it is imperative for parents, teacher administrators and students to jointly address the positive, productive, efficient, safe and responsible use of a valuable asset.
